El Mercadito Hispano II Reviews
It might be called the 2nd little Hispanic market, but this place is number 1 in my book. great prices, great pupusas, and the topping stuff, (I think it's called cutrido?) is the bomb), also, the cork-board is jammed with apt postings. They have all kinds of central, South American food items and hard to find specialty items as well. Great service, this place is definitely my new go to spot!
I thank Yelp reviews for guiding me to this place... I had just driven by, and thought it was just a Latin Mercado... But inside is a tiny food stand that delivers some wonderful food to your carry-out tray... I listened to other Yelpers and ordered the Carne Asada. It was amazingly delicious! I couldn't eat it all, and it made a delicious lunch the next day... I'll be back
Was looking for a good Menudo is the Sterling area. All I ever find is Mondongo though. What they have is good, comes with a cow foot and about 4 pieces of tripe. Lots of choyote, yucca and carrots and good broth. Comes with two of the fat el salvador style tortillas. If anyone knows of a place where I can get some real Mexican menudo, message me please! You know, the stuff with lots of tripe and hominy-no carrots and squash etc. It should be served with pan or corn tortillias, rough oregano, lime and crushed red pepper. I guess I have to make my own again :( - off to the international market...
I've had their carne asada which comes with rice frijoles molidos salad and tortilla. Carne was cooked the way I love it which is a plus. Had so much flavor. Mouth watering just thinking about it!!! Yummy food
It's funny honestly that the sample review starts so accurately. It doesn't look like much when you pass by, and it is kinda a hole in the wall... after fashion. The inside looks something like they bought an old 7-11 and only semi-converted it, but it's well worth poking your head in and grabbing a pupusa. The shelving in the middle of the store and the cold cases in the back have reasonably generic stuff, especially if you need good tortillas or cotija or something, and there's a bit of fresh produce off to the left by the kitchen. Stare at the menu for a minute, order at the little counter, and then wait a bit til they hand you your bag. I grabbed a cheap cuppa while I was there which is exactly the caffeinated comes-from-a-dispenser coffee it looked like, complete with powdered creamer, but it works. The tamales were also amazing- or so I hear, since i didn't get to eat any of them. Next time. The only issue I ran into at all, honestly, was getting someone to acknowledge I existed at the other register so I could pay for my tortillas and produce. It took... a while.
